Obtaining the perfect marine audio system on a boat is sometimes difficult. For optimum sound performance, you need more than just a good receiver, you need high quality marine speakers that are properly installed.

Marine speakers

Home or car speakers have steel frames and grilles, exposed copper wires and, in some cases, paper cones. All of these features are a problem on a boat because steel rusts, copper corrodes, and paper dissolves. Salt air is the main environmental problem,

marine speakers should be used below deck as well as in the cockpit.

Positioning of marine speakers

Speakers are directional and so you will need to place your speakers towards your entertaining area. If you have an opened decked vessel you will lose considerably more sound than an inclosed vessel, if you position your speakers incorrectly.

Marinised receivers

Quality marine audio equipment is marinised to help protect the units from the harsh marine environment. Car audio equipment will not withstand the salt air and wet conditions. Even inside the cabin you will notice non-marine receivers become effected much faster than marinised receivers. BOSS marine audio equipment can deliver the performance and durability you need to combat these elements.

What is the cutout size for correct mounting of BOSS marine audio receivers?

The cutout for all BOSS marine audio receivers is 182mm (wide) x 53mm (high)

This is the cutout size which allows the holder to be secured in place by bendable tabs. Once in place the receiver can be inserted into the holder and locked into place.

How much POWER do you need?

All BOSS marine receivers are powered higher than normal marine receivers. This allows you to run four small speakers comfortably from the receiver without it being necessary to purchase a stand alone amplifier. However, if you do have a larger vessel you may wish to invest in an additional amplifier to maximize the sound performance in all areas of the boat.

Here are some marine audio system examples to help you...

Marine audio system 1

This system is designed for small to medium sized vessels. The MR1420W comfortably handles four MR50 marine speakers. These speakers can be all be placed in the cockpit or in the cabin.

Marine audio system 2

This system has the MR1620W which features a wired remote control that can be mounted on the console or near the transom for easy audio control whilst away from the main cockpit console. The MR1620W also comfortably handles four MR50 marine speakers.

Marine audio system 3

This premium marine audio system incorporates the MR2080W which delivers 80watts of power

into four speaker channels. This receiver can handle four high power marine speakers.

The MR650 marine speakers are the choice here. This system is designed for medium sized vessels and comes the wired remote control feature.

Marine audio system 4

The last system has an MR1420W receiver which is connected to an additional amplifier via the RCA connection from the receiver. The powered MR250.4 amplifier has an output of 1000watts which is divided into four speaker channels of 250watts.

Each speaker channel from the amplifier can deliver exceptional audio performance through four high power speakers such as the MR650 round speakers or MR695 oval speakers. If this isn't enough sound, you can also run four more MR50 speakers from your receiver if you wish. This marine audio system has been designed for larger vessels which need the increased audio performance to reach all areas without compromise.
